Chinese from zero: the four tones and pinyin first, then your first 300 words, the characters they are made of and 14 short stories to read them in. Free, about ten minutes a day, no sign-up.
How it works
- Start from zero. The four tones, played slowly with the pitch drawn wide so you can hear each shape, a tone trainer, every syllable of Mandarin to tap and hear, tone pairs and your first 21 words. About a week at 15 minutes a day.
- Characters. Watch the stroke order, trace each character once, then recall it on the days it comes back. Five new characters a day take you through all 346 in about ten weeks.
- Words. Flashcards with sound for the 297 words of HSK 1 and 2. New words are picked from characters you have already met.
- Stories. Fourteen short stories written only with these words, the last six a step up at HSK 2. Tap any word for its pinyin, meaning and sound.
Every review asks you to remember first and check second, and cards come back just before you would forget them. That is how memory research says vocabulary sticks. The details, the sources and the credits are on About Learn Chinese.
